Will Karen Gillan, Hayley Atwell, Kevin Smith, or Brett Dalton be the stars of Miami-based Florida Supercon, the annual megaconvention of all things comic, anime, gaming, and pop culture? Or will it be the specially released Power Up Peach IPA from J. Wakefield Brewery, brewed specifically for the convention? We'll have to find out this coming Thursday through Sunday (June 25 to 28) to find out.

The beer will be a limited release from the brewery and be available only at the convention and the brewery's Wynwood tap room.

Known for being Miami's biggest and most celeb-heavy, geek-oriented convention, Florida Supercon has grown from humble roots spreading the love of nerd culture. Starting in 2006 where it was held at The Hollywood Beach Resort and brought in about 1,500 attendees, the convention has grown to encompass The Miami Beach Convention Center in Miami with over 43,000 passing through the doors in the span of a weekend.

With the recent expansion of the Miami brewing scene, a community that is notoriously (wonderfully) geeky, it was only a matter of time before opportunities arose.

When Supercon COO Sandy Martin — a big fan herself of the IPA style — became aware of the love of comics, all things Star Wars, and sundry geek exploits from Jonathan Wakefield and his crew, she knew she had to reach out.

"I believe that comic conventions like Florida Supercon have strong appeal because comic con stands for creativity. We celebrate the work of artists, writers, actors, filmmakers, and all sorts of craftspeople. When artist Jeff Dekal [a South Florida based cover artist for Marvel Comics among others] told me that a local brew master was in touch with his inner geek, I knew that we should present craft beer as another form of art at the convention. I can't wait to taste the Power Up Peach IPA they are brewing for us."

Maria Isabel Cabré, cellarman and head of the treatment division tells us that the brewery is excited to brew for this event because Jonathan is a big fan.

"Our beers cater to all palates, but our taproom has a special place in the hearts of Star Wars geeks and comic book nerds alike," sayd Wakefield.

"The IPA we brewed for Florida Supercon is the perfect balance of hop bitterness and malty backbone, along with the sweet and juicy taste and aroma of peach."

Dekal didn't just introduce great minds to each other, he also worked on some peach-heavy artwork for the special release, with this interpretation of Princess Peach.
