Scotch is one of those spirits that elicits strong reactions; may it be a strong buzz from consuming copious amounts or a flat out look of disgust. However, even scotch admirers know very little about the gentlemen's drink. Market 17 is attempting to turn that sense of bewilderment around with their scotch dinners.

According to Market 17 managing partner Kirsta Grauberger the restaurant is "partnering with Harmeet Aurora from Fine Wine and Spirits. He is one of South Florida's biggest Scotch experts and a great friend of the restaurant.  We did a scotch dinner back in December with him that was a lot fun and successful so we are looking forward to this one."

Executive chef Lauren DeShields came up with the menu based on a tasting done with Aurora. "Harmeet sat down with us and we tried all the scotches and she came up with the menu she feels best compliments the many flavors of the different scotches" says Grauberger. For what $85+, the menu is to consist of six courses with six different scotches to accompany each.

There will be an overview of each scotch as they are served. According to Grauberger, "Scotch is one of the most varied and flavorful spirits out there. This dinner is for the scotch novice as well as scotch lovers. Trying this many scotches is a great way to learn about scotch and which flavor profile suits your palate."

The event will take place on June 20, at 7 pm. For more information check out their facebook page or website. Market 17 is located at 1850 SE 17 St. in Fort Lauderdale. To make a reservation call 954-835-5507.
