Nothing screams summer more than the sweet taste of ice cream. Somewhere in the word, at this exact moment, there's a little kid covered from to head to toe in melted sugar and cream.

Like most other popular foods, the great treat of ice cream has its own festival -- most likely, more than one. This weekend PGA National Resort & Spa is dedicating its entire weekend to the most amazing dessert, ever.

To help celebrate the resort is bringing in celebrities, including father-of-the-decade Michael Lohan.

"Our 'Ice Cream Festival Weekend´ is loaded with affordable fun for all and is going to be an absolute blast for the entire family," said Joel Paige, vice president and managing director. "While we're world-famous for golf, we're also quickly becoming known as one of the great family destinations in the U.S."

The hotel is hosting a number of family-friendly events throughout the weekend. A portion of the proceeds benefits the Alliance for Kids, a non-profit organization which provides funds for the Child Life Department at the Palm Beach Children's Hospital.

On Friday from 6 to 10 p.m., it's the "Gourmet Ice Cream Pairing Dinner at Bella Lago," which pairs four-courses with ice cream and a wine. The $100 dinner will feature pan seared diver sea scallop, braised leek charred tomato fondue, blistered asparagus, roasted garlic ice cream; local heirloom tomatoes, Tuscan burrata, spicy arugula, crisp ciabatta, sparkling Prosecco basil sorbet, aged Balsamic drizzle; Barolo braised short rib of beef, mascarpone fresh herb polenta, foraged woodland mushrooms summer root vegetables, white truffle foie gras crème; and Bacardi rock coconut cake, red papaya mango "chow chow" white rum raisin vanilla bean ice cream, amber rum gastrique.

On Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., hotel guests are invited to attend "The Face Freeze Frenzy Ice Creaming Eating Contest" at the hotel pool. The event pits celebrity contestants against each-other, including Michael Lohan, in a battle to see who can eat the most ice cream in a given time period without using their hands -- oh, the images.

From 2 to 4 p.m., Whole Foods' "The Big Taste," is open to the public. For $20 per adult, $10 for kids, the party offers unlimited ice cream samples -- just think of the sugar rush -- and a contest for "Yummiest Ice Cream Flavor." For tickets, visit thebigtaste.eventbrite.com.

From 6 to 8:30 p.m., "BBQ Sock Hop" at the Palm Terrace features live entertainment with a "Golf Kart Drive-in Movie" following at 9 p.m. The Movie is $10 per cart, popcorn included.

On Sunday "Luke's Ice Cream Sweet Sundae Fun Day" is taking place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. For $30 in advance, $35 per family at the door, the "fun day" includes a sundae building kit, face painting, bounce houses, multiple vendors, and an attempt to beat the current Guinness Book of World Record for "World's Longest Ice Cream Sundae" of more than 1,200 feet. For advace ticket purchase, visit sweetsundae.eventbrite.com

To make things easier, the hotel is offering a two day / one night "Ice Cream Festival Weekend Package" starting on Saturday, Aug. 17 for $189, which includes accommodations and tickets to all of the events -- depending on the size of your family, some events may require additional tickets.

"It's going to be great fun here at PGA National as we attempt to build the world's longest ice cream sundae and, best of all, families get to enjoy eating the results," says Joel Paige, Vice President and Managing Director. "Even more important is the benefit to the Alliance for Kids and its wonderful work at the Palm Beach Children's Hospital."

The PGA National Resort & Spa is located at 400 Avenue of the Champions in Palm Beach Gardens. Call 561-627-2000, or visit pgaresort.com.
