If you were a fast-casual chicken restaurant opening a new location in Pompano Beach at the start of Memorial Day weekend how would you celebrate?

Two words: Beach Party!

Pollo Tropical, south Florida's own Latin-themed chicken restaurant that features heathier-than-usual food on the go, is opening their newest restaurant on Friday, May 24 at 2320 N. Federal Highway, just north of Copans Road.

To celebrate, they're having an all-day "beach party" complete with free food, prize giveaways, and surfing! Surfing?

Yesssss.... Pollo Tropical is setting up a virtual beach, complete with two surf simulators that ride atop a wide virtual wave. Plus, one of the first 100 guests in line for the restaurant opening at 10:30 a.m. will win free Pollo Tropical for a year.

The fun starts at 8 a.m., with surf practice. Then, at 9 a.m. personalities from Y-100 will be on hand to entertain the crowd that will line up for the chance to win the free chicken for a year.

At 11 a.m., the first surfing contest begins, with prizes for the best "hang-ten's", with live music by DJ Frankie.

The fun continues with additional surfing contests (including a twilight contest with glo-sticks at 7 p.m.), entertainment, and giveaways until 9 p.m.

Sounds like a great Memorial Day kickoff -- without getting sand in your shorts!
