Rare Beer Hunters: Mack House To Host Sharks & Whalez Party July 22

Are you beer-soaked Captain Ahab? Are you constantly seeking out the limited releases on store shelves? Chasing deliver trucks in the hopes of snatching up that one rare bottle of double tequila barrel aged cranberry lime imperial white IPA?? 

Then the Mack House in Davie has the evening for you. What am I talking about? Do you even whalez, bro???

On Wednesday July 22, the nano brewery will be hosting a Sharks and Whalez party to celebrate the release of many a fine beer, including a very rare tapping of the Bourbon Barrel Aged Nick's Caraway Stout. This silky smooth and boozy stout has sat for months in a barrel, taking on woody, chocolatey, and punch-in-the-nose-like-a-shark flavor. An early sample of the beer has thrust it up as one of the favorite barrel-aged stouts in years. 

Mack House whale breeder Justin Miles told us, "The line up will be barrel aged Nick Caraway Rye Stout, aged vintage 2013 Mack In Black infused with coconut and coffee, Cigar City Brewing's Seasonal Creep, M.I.A. Mega Mix, and Grapefruit Scuplin."

For the uninitiated, 'whalez', as you might have gathered from my description earlier, refer to those limited and hard to find beers that breweries will release, and in which beer traders and enthusiasts will foam at the mouth over, much like Captain Ahab in Herman Melville's 1851 novel Moby-Dick. It's become such a term in the beer community that BeerAdvocate sells a t-shirt.

"As far as the Whalez Night," Miles continued. "Basically we feel like some people are a little uptight and more caught up in the hype and chasing Whalez than actually enjoying the beer. Craft Beer Should be fun! So it's very much tongue in cheek."

The sharks part, on the other hand, has to do with the 9 p.m. premier of Sharknado 3: Oh, Hell No! which, if we're being frank, should just be a damn good time. Limited release beers and a horribly cheesy movie? Oh, Hell Yes!
