It's the calm before the storm of season; a relatively quiet weekend in the South Florida dining scene. But if your appetite for entertainment won't be satiated by sitting home and watching the 2012 Olympics (Still with that?) there are a few reasons to head out the door. After the jump, find a list of five food and drink events happening this weekend in Broward and Palm Beach counties.

1. Steve Martorano book signing
Yo! What Friday night plans do you have that could possibly compete with meeting a muscle-bound, tatted-up Philly kid who made good? Steve Martorano will be hanging out at his restaurant, Martorano's, at Seminole Paradise tonight for an 8 p.m. book signing of "Yo Cuz! My Life. My Food. My Way." He'll also be hitting the turn tables and cooking crabs and spaghetti for all those super-fans who crave an immersive Martorano experience.

2. Duffy's MVP bus to watch the Miami Marlins
The uber-popular sports bar, Duffy's, is hosting another MVP bus program this weekend to shuttle baseball/bar fans from several Duffy's locations to the new stadium in Miami. The cost is $40 per person and Sunday's game is against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Call 561-804-7676 to book a seat, but hurry; spots are limited. For more info, click here.

3. Delray Beach Tastemakers
Tonight is the second evening of this popular annual event that allows you to sample the goods from a variety of spots both on and off Atlantic Avenue. Click here for the details, including a peek at some of the pairings being offered.

4. Zinfest
Get your swerve on with fellow wine snobs at the red zinfandel tasting tonight and Saturday night at The Best Cellar (1408 NE 26th Street, Wilton Manors). Richard Stetler will lead a $20 tasting of more than a dozen vintages. Call for a reservation; 954-630-8020. Tastings are at 6 and 8 p.m., plus there's an additional tasting at 2 p.m. Saturday.

5. Boca Festival Days "Paw-ty Time"
While not strictly a food event, eating does factor into this dog-friendly gathering from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Shoppes at Village Pointe. Go munch on some snacks and "ooh" and "aah" over totes adorbs animals. If you're in the market for a new friend (of the furry variety), be sure to check out the adoptable animals at the event. Find more details about the get-together here.
