Options this week for food-centered fun in South Florida range from the highbrow (swanky fundraising tastings) to the not-so-highbrow (deep-fried butter and the Tilt-a-Whirl) and choices in between.

Assuming you've already gone ahead and said "screw it" to your New Year's resolutions, there are plenty of opportunities to overindulge and throw caution to the wind.

After the jump, a look at some of the food and drink events this week and weekend in Broward and Palm Beach counties:

All Week:

South Florida Fair -- Snack on deep-fried butter, deep-fried Kool Aid, scorpions on a stick, and maggot melt sandwiches, in addition to more traditional gut-busting fair fare like fried dough and French fries. The South Florida Fair continues daily through Sunday, January 29 at the fairgrounds in West Palm Beach.

Tuesday:

The Winter Series of Beer -- Bon Beer Voyage is conducting a series of winter beer tasting classes at two World of Beer locations in South Florida. This week's edition is at World of Beer - Clematis in West Palm Beach. The cost is $15 and the class is 7:30 to 9 p.m. You'll taste six to eight beers and the class is limited to 30 people: register online.

Wednesday:

Sushi Making Class -- Learn how to make three different rolls at this hands-on cooking mixer sponsored by Jewish Social. The class is 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the DoubleTree Hotel, 4431 PGA Boulevard in Palm Beach Gardens. The cost is $18 and you don't need to bring any supplies of your own.

Friday:

Whiskers and Wine -- A wine mixer to benefit Warm Hearts Pet Rescue and Good Karma Pet Rescue helping homeless pets in South Florida. The party is 6 to 8 p.m. at the Wine Cellar, 1500 Gateway Blvd. #104, Boynton Beach. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Email [email protected] to reserve a spot. Cocktail attire encouraged.

Birthday weekend at Kevro's Art Bar -- Kevro's Art Bar in Delray Beach will host a weekend-long birthday party honoring founder Kevin Rouse who celebrates his 50th. Activities include a seafood boil Friday night and live music throughout the weekend.  

Saturday:

JA World Uncorked! II -- Junior Achievement of South Florida will host a jazzy speakeasy with tastings from local chefs and restaurants, a burger battle, specialty cocktails, craft beer pairings, cooking demos, and live music. The event is 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the JA World Huizenga Center at Broward College, 1130 Coconut Creek Blvd., Coconut Creek. Tickets are $150. 

Beer Versus Wine Dinner -- A five-course dinner where each course is paired with both a wine and a craft beer and attendees vote on the best drink of the evening. The dinner is 7 p.m. at The Blind Monk in West Palm Beach. The cost is $60 per person and reservations are required. Call 561-833-3605.
