Around and around we go, and so begins the start to yet another lovely work week. Today, there's a few things to lament. First, the fact that summer is officially over. Second, that most of us are probably working this Labor Day holiday.
Whether or not you're stuck punching the time card, there's still plenty of stuff to do this week to help you forget. If you're looking to drink to a good cause, have brunch like its Sunday, or dive into a pool party, there's something to do in Broward and Palm Beach counties this week.
Monday
Labor Day Brunch at Big City Tavern
Big Time Restaurant Group is celebrating the end of summer with a special, extended Labor Day Brunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday at Big City Tavern, City Cellar Wine Bar & Grill, City Oyster & Sushi Bar, and all Rocco's Tacos & Tequila Bar locations. Salvation Labor Day Pool Party at the W Fort Lauderdale Hotel
This Monday, keep the summer fun going with one of the hottest pool parties on the beach. The W Fort Lauderdale Hotel will be hosting its Salvation WET pool party with DJ Kevin Graham playing all the summer's favorite songs -- no summertime sadness here. For reservations, call 954-414-8300.
Poetry Uncorked at the Blind Monk

Margarita Monday at Cabo Flats
Cabo Flats, with locations in Delray Beach and Palm Beach Gardens, is kicking off the month of September with a special on its El Cabo margaritas, which are on sale for $5 all day long. It's a great month to visit Cabo Flats, period, with multiple specials including a daily happy hour from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. where you can get $5 appetizers, cocktails, wine, and $3 beer at the bar. And don't forget taco Tuesday, with unlimited chicken, vegetable, ground beef, steak, shrimp, or mahi tacos for $15.
Tuesday
This Tuesday, Sage Cafe in Fort Lauderdale is hosting a monthly wine tasting. For $14, you'll receive samples of new wines from around the world, while sampling complimentary appetizers. The event takes place from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Wednesday
Feast of the Sea Chef Challenge Finale
This Wednesday, The Feast of the Sea will be hosting its final chef competition and will be crowning the Maestro Del Mar chef champion at E.R. Bradley's Saloon in West Palm Beach. The competition will feature all four winning chefs from the previous challenges including Edwin Bermudez of Nick & Johnnie's in Palm Beach, Eugenio Santucci of Ristorante Santucci, Adam Gottlieb of Atlantic Grille, and Eric Grutka of Ian's Tropical Grille. Each chef will have one hour to present a signature dish using fish donated by Sea Delight of Miami. The Feast of the Sea is a free seafood festival taking place on September 13 in downtown West Palm Beach.
Thursday
Caipirinha Tasting at Chima Brazilian Steakhouse
Chima Brazilian Steakhouse, located on Fort Lauderdale's posh Las Olas Boulevard, will be offering a special tasting of traditional Brazilian fare and cocktails on Thursday, from 5-8 p.m. The evening is dedicated to Brazil's national drink - the caipirinha, a cocktail featuring cachaça, lime and sugar. For $20, guests can indulge in three flavors of freshly-muddled caipirinhas including strawberry, passion fruit, and traditional, and an upscale bar bites sampler of a beef skewer, chicken and pineapple skewer, and Chima's signature cheese bread and meat croquettes. Chima Brazilian Steakhouse offers churrasco (grilled meats) of over 16 rotisserie selections including top sirloin, filet, ribs, lamb, pork, chicken, sausage and fish, which gauchos continuously offer while roaming the dining room. The gourmet salad bar blends Brazilian and American favorites including salads, seafood, imported prosciutto, cheeses, smoked salmon, beef carpaccio, soup and traditional Brazilian hot dishes.
War of the Wines Dinner Series
This Thursday, Steak 954 in Fort Lauderdale will be hosting another "War of the Wines" dinner series, with traditional versus new California wines facing off against each other. If you had to choose a new California wine, or a traditional one, which would you pick? Put your palate to the test as chef Jason Landon Smith presents a five-course meal where you'll be presented with wines both new and old to decide which goes best. The event takes place from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tickets are $100 per person (tax and tip not included). For reservations call 954-414-8333.
Yappy Hour at Ocean Bleu
Every Thursday, Ocean Bleu in Tequesta celebrates its weekly "pooches on the porch" night. This Thursday, the event goes one step further with a special fundraising event for Big Dog Ranch Rescue from 5-7 p.m. For a $10 donation you'll get a complimentary glass of craft beer or wine, and appetizers. Stay and eat on the patio with your pooch, and 10 percent of your final check will also be donated to Big Dog Ranch Rescue. The event will feature a raffle, and -- of course -- plenty of dogs up for adoption or available for foster.
