Burger Craze, the newest burger joint to hit the Second Street strip in Deerfield Beach, is offering up a special challenge and new menu item to celebrate National Burger Day May 28. The casual waterfront burger bar and restaurant is launching an epic eight-pound burger challenge this week in honor of National Burger Month.

As its name implies, Burger Craze has a passion for burgers, offering nearly 20 different varieties. All burgers are made with certified Angus beef and handcrafted by executive chef Tulio Castilla. Favorites like the French Apple made with caramelized apple, Applewood bacon, and melted brie, or the Hipster Burger made with arugula, shaved parmesan, prosciutto, truffle oil.

But all these pale in comparison to the 8-pound burger, a huge patty planted between two enormous buns, and topped with all the traditional goods. If you think you have what it takes to defeat this meat, you might want to consider being a part of the inaugural burger challenge that kicks of during an official launch party Thursday, when you can dig into Burger Craze’s massive sandwich.

Those up to eating must sign-up for the challenge and pay the $40 fee to reserve a spot in the challenge. After that, it's game on.

The rules are short and simple: Hungry participants will compete in teams of two and will only have 45 minutes at their disposal to eat the entire burger. No bathroom breaks will be allowed. Winners get their picture hung on the “Wall of Fame” and their money refunded. May the best competitor win.

The 8-pound burger will officially make it onto Burger Craze’s permanent menu this month. After the launch, the burger will still cost you $40 (or, if you finish it, the meal is on the house). The cost if you are looking to order to share with friends has yet to be announced.

Located adjacent to sister establishment Café Med, Burger Craze makes for a perfect dining escape for vacationers, beachgoers, and local residents alike. Burger Craze provides open air seating combined with spectacular ocean views. The menu is straight-up American fare, served for both lunch and dinner, seven days a week. Even if you're on the health train, order up any burger and substitute the beef patty with a chicken breast or veggie chipotle black bean, salmon, or turkey burger. The restaurant also offers wings, salads, hot dogs, fries and appetizers. Burger Craze’s take on these American classics are complemented with signature cocktail creations and draft or bottled brews, and craft cocktails.

Hopeful contestants who would like to participate in the first burger challenge can call to sign-up (or to reserve a spot at the official launch party) by calling 561-750-3500.

Burger Craze is located at 2096 NE Second St., Deerfield Beach. Visit Visit Burger-Craze.com.
