Tap 42 Plans Tap Takeover to Benefit ALS

Have you taken the ALS challenge? Yeah, the one where you either pour a bucket of ice water on your head or write a check. And, although dumpling ice on your head might be silly, the results are incredible.

According to the ALS Association, as of September 12, ice bucket challenges around the world have raised $112.4 million. So, while we applaud these amazing fundraising efforts, we'd much rather do something more fun..like drink beer for the cause.

Apparently, Cigar City Brewing, Funky Buddha Brewery, and Tap 42 agree, because they're hosting South Florida's largest tap takeover, benefiting ALS research.

On Tuesday, September 16, starting at 11:30 a.m., Tap 42 is turning all of their 42 taps over to Cigar City and Funky Buddha. Each Florida brewery will have 21 taps in which to pour the "best of the best" beer, with 20% of all proceeds donated to the Florida Chapter of the ALS Association.

Although the breweries won't divulge the complete list of brews (keeping some a secret is cool), beers confirmed include Cigar City's Marshal Zhukov, Oatmeal Raisin Cookie Brown, and Good Gourd.

Funky Buddha beers include Barrel Aged Muy Bonita, Blueberry Cobbler, and

Baklava Braggot.

Tap 42's executive chef Andrew Balick will offer two special appetizers, each incorporating a beer from each brewery, preparing crispy duck spring rolls with Cigar City Cider honey mustard and spicy tuna lettuce wraps made with Funky Buddha "Fire in the Hole" habanero sweet chili sauce.

Chef Balick says that the takeover is the restaurant's way of sharing in this amazing fundraising phenomenon. "This has been amazing, with the one downside, of course, is people having to dump ice on their head. We thought a tap takeover was a great opportunity to jump on board."

Balick was also excited about the challenge of turning beers from each brewery into a dish, saying, "its challenging to cook with beer. The sweeter beers work better, but I love to mess around and discover new flavors."

The Tap 42 tap takeover for ALS starts at 11:30 a.m. and continues all night until closing or they're "tapped out".
