The company that supplies fresh apple slices to many fast-food outlets, including Burger King and McDonald's, has voluntarily recalled several products after finding traces of Listeria monocytogenes on equipment at the Missa Bay LLC processing plant.
Missa Bay's parent company, Ready Pac, has issued a recall of 293,488 cases and 296,224 individually distributed units of
fruit, vegetable, and sandwich products containing apples with "use by" dates of July 8 through August 20.
Most every state, including Florida, is listed on the recall notice,
including sliced apple packages from Burger King and McDonald's and
several prepackaged salads. A complete list of recalled items is

To
date, there have been no reported illnesses from the fruit, but
consumers are urged to contact Ready Pac Consumer Affairs Department at 800-800-7822
Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Pacific Time) to obtain a full
refund.
Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious or
life-threatening food-borne illness. Symptoms may include fever, muscle
aches, and gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea or diarrhea. The
illness primarily impacts pregnant women and adults with weakened immune
systems.
