If you've ever watched Food Network's Cupcake Wars and thought that your tangelo-basil cupcake with wilted spinach and bacon buttercream frosting could kick serious butt, put your money where your piehole is, dust off your rolling pin, and enter your blueberry-peach crumble in this year's South Florida Fair Culinary Competition on January 22.

Categories for the competition include cakes, cupcakes, breads, pies, pickles, canned vegetables and jams, casseroles, and dips. If you're lousy in the kitchen but have crazy knife skills, enter your bust of Elvis carved from fresh summer squash in the fruit- and vegetable-carving competition.

There are no entry fees, and winners receive an old-fashioned blue ribbon, bragging rights, and their own food show on the new Oprah Winfrey Network (just kidding about the show on OWN).

Registration and entry submission is Saturday, January 22, from 10 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Judging will begin at 1 p.m., and awards will be announced shortly after judging. For complete rules and entry form, visit the South Florida Fair's website.
