In light of information from Britain's National Pig Association (NPA), that homegrown bacon loss has taken on a new sense of tragedy. According to our porcine-minded friends across the pond, the "European Union pig herd" is shrinking at an alarming rate. The Brits have launched a "Save Our Bacon" campaign asking shoppers to select pork and bacon products bearing a particular label to support British pig farmers.

According to Huffington Post, droughts in North America and Russia are contributing factors to the bacon situation, as the water shortage has led to skyrocketing feed costs. Interesting side note: Did you hear the one about cows eating candy because corn and other normal cow dietary staples are too expensive? What's next? Watering our crops with Brawndo?
But back to the bacon. The NPA said that "a world shortage of pork and bacon next year is now unavoidable" mostly because of crappy corn and soy harvests. It may be time to shore up your bacon reserves before the porky panic strikes and you're forced to consume cupcakes and sandwiches devoid of that most-beloved salty snack.
