American Craft Beer Week is Monday, May 14, through Sunday, May 20, and in addition to the official beer week events hosted by Brown Distributing, many South Florida bars and restaurants are tapping into the region's growing appreciation for the fermented arts.

Big City Tavern in Fort Lauderdale is riding the wave with the addition of two menu items that incorporate beer. Chef Louie Bossi has added an appetizer of Prince Edward Island mussels ($12) braised in Toasted Blue Point Lager. The dish is tossed with shaved onions, garlic, pecan-wood-smoked bacon, and a dollop of cream as a topping. A new main course, the 1855 boneless beef short ribs ($24), is braised with Young's Double Chocolate Stout and served with mashed potatoes and oven-roasted vegetables.
