Support the independent voice of South Florida and help keep the future of New Times free.

This Thursday evening, Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden will be hosting the Third Annual International Chocolate Festival Kickoff Party. No, I didn't know about the first two either, but this year's one-hour shindig (6 to 7 p.m.) features hors d'oeuvres from exceptional chef Edgar Leal of Cacao Restaurant -- reason enough to attend. Throw in Bella Sera Italian wines (admittedly no wow factor here), chocolates by Romanicos in Coral Gables (New Times' 2006 BOM winner for Best Chocolate), and the picturesque panoramas afforded from the Pandanus Lakeside Pavilion and it sounds like a darn good time -- plus admission is a reasonable $15 ($10 for members).

Other things you should know: Guests must be 21, parking is by the North Entrance Visitors Center, and an RSVP  is required by clicking here or calling 305-667-1651, ext. 3300.

Keep New Times Broward-Palm Beach Free... Since we started New Times Broward-Palm Beach, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of South Florida, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering South Florida with no paywalls.
