The economy seems to be getting better -- minus, of course, whatever unseen consequences the whole government shutdown may end up presenting in the future -- however, unemployment is still a problem for many.
In August, the national unemployment rate for veterans made its way to 6.2 percent, down from 6.4 percent in July. While the rates are obviously dropping, there is still some ways to go.
To help veterans find jobs, Dada Restaurant and Lounge is hosting a job fair today and tomorrow.

From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days, Dada and Sub Culture Group -- operated by restaurateurs Rodney Mayo and Scott Frielich -- are teaming up with other local businesses to pair men and women of the armed forces with employers looking to hire.
"I think that when your community supports you and makes you a successful business, you have the obligation and the privilege to give back to that community," said Dada general manager Carlos Gambarini. "Not just Dada but all the restaurants and clubs in our company have always committed to give back and engage locally. Our fearless leaders Rodney Mayo and Scott Frielich have always applied that philosophy in all of their ventures."
So far, Sub Culture spot's the Dubliner, Howley's, Kapow! Noodle Bar, and DaDa will be represented as well as Racks Downton Eatery and Tavern, Table 42, and Cabana El Rey; however, Gambarini is expecting even more restaurants to attend.
Aside from giving back to the community, according to Gambarini, hiring those who have spent time in the military is a no-brainer; he has always made an effort to recruit them as Dada employees.
"They have leadership skills, a great work ethic, and a drive to succeed in everything they do," said Gambarini. "Anybody would be crazy not to consider vets as employees. We just thought it was time to make more people aware of it and give local businesses the opportunity to do that too."
In addition to those looking for work, Gambarini is still encouraging employers to show up. Businesses are encouraged to call or just bring employment applications to the fair.
"We'll give them a space to meet vets and interview; everyone is welcomed -- the more the merrier," said Gambarini.
Gambarini is also encouraging employers to visit showyourstripes.org to show support.
