For quite some time now, restaurant openings in Broward and Palm Beach counties haven't slowed. So it makes sense that December — the official start to season and a time when holiday travelers are at their peak — saw a few dozen new establishments enter the South Florida dining scene.

Surprisingly, there weren't any notable restaurant closings either. Notable openings, however, include a bevy of barbecue spots: Smoke BBQ in Fort Lauderdale, Mission BBQ in Davie, at Boca's Best BBQ in Boca Raton all opened their doors this month, making 2016 the year of barbecue in South Florida.
