The closer it gets to summer, the quieter the event calendar in South Florida. While the spiking temperatures and afternoon showers are enough to drive you inside for the next five months, there are a few fun happenings this week that should encourage you to (temporarily) brave an exit from that air-conditioned cocoon. After the jump, find a list of food and drink events this week in Broward and Palm Beach counties.

Tonight:

Food truck roundup in downtown Hollywood -- The weekly food truck invasion in Arts Park  in downtown Hollywood will feature more than two dozen food trucks, with mainstays like B.C. Tacos, Catered Bliss, and Taco Fresh slated to appear (lineups always are subject to change). The roundup is 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. and be sure to bring cash for the trucks.

Thursday:

Due South Tap Takeover at World of Beer in Coconut Creek -- New South Florida craft brewer Due South Brewing Co. will be the subject of a tap takeover at World of Beer in Coconut Creek at 7 p.m. Some of the brews scheduled to appear on tap include Caramel Cream Ale, Category 3 IPA, Honey Vanilla Wheat, and Southern Saison.

Taste in the West and Chocolate Lovers Festival -- Local restaurants will be on-hand for a tasting festival/event from 4:30 to 8 p.m. at the South Florida Fair Grounds in West Palm Beach. Admission is $12. Click here to order a ticket.

Friday:

Sushi & Stroll -- Drink sake and eat sushi before taking a walk around the grounds at Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens for Sushi & Stroll from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Admission is $7 for adults and there's a $2 charge to watch the taiko drumming performance.

Grand opening of Pollo Tropical in Greenacres -- Pollo Tropical will celebrate the opening of its Greenacres store with a "beach party" with an on-land surfing contest and a news media surfing charity challenge at 12:30 p.m. The restaurant opens at 10:30 a.m. and the first 100 people in line will have a chance to win Pollo Tropical food for a year. The restaurant is located at 6704 Forest Hill Blvd, Greenacres.

Saturday:

Summer Green Market in Palm Beach Gardens -- While most of our farmer's markets shutter for the next few months, the Summer Green Market hosted from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday is held indoors at Store Self Storage in Palm Beach Gardens, giving shoppers a reprieve from the heat. The market is held rain or shine.
