Everyone's all "Blah, blah, Art Basel this," and "Art Basel that" this weekend, but that doesn't mean there aren't a few things shaking this side of the county line. Take for instance, the Palm Beach Food and Wine Festival which kicks off tonight and continues into next week. After the jump take a look at five food- and drink-related activities this weekend in Broward and Palm Beach counties.
5. Kapow! Noodle Bar's first anniversary party
Kapow in Mizner Park is throwing down on Saturday to celebrate its one-year anniversary. The restaurant/bar will start happy hour at 11:30 a.m. and continue the party until 2 a.m. Specials include $5 Titos vodka cocktails, $5 Patron, $2 Sapporo, and $3 Shipyard drafts. There will be giveaways and a DJ on hand to keep the party raging.
4. Grand opening of Dry Fried Wings
If you can't make it down to Miami for Basel, you can still get in a little bit of star spotting at the grand opening festivities for Dry Fried Wings. The new Fort Lauderdale restaurant -- which shares space with Da Vinci's Pizzeria -- will host a handful of sports stars this weekend, including Shaquille O'Neal from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. this afternoon (Friday). A few former Dolphins players also will stop by on Saturday. Add to that a few free giveaways and dining specials. Dry Fried Wings and Da Vinci's Pizzeria are located at 3936 N. Ocean Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale. Call 954-561-0404.
3. Keep it Local party at Das Dog
Like wieners and brewskis? Das Dog in Jupiter is ushering in a new "Keep It Local" happy hour with a tap takeover and sidewalk bash from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. The hot dog purveyor will turn over its taps to Tequesta Brewing Company to highlight three of their brews, including Der Chancellor. Drafts will be $3. There'll also be live music and local artists. Bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate to Little Smiles and get one free draft beer or a free hot dog.
2. Sixth Annual Sweet Dreams Holiday Festival
After seeing the sugar-stuffed menu for this weekend's sixth annual Sweet Dreams festival at Seminole Casino Coconut Creek, your kids may beg for the chance to attend. But this is strictly an adults-only party, with beer, wine, and liquor in addition to a smorgasbord that includes a chocolate fountain, candy buffet, cupcake pops, liquid nitrogen ice cream, and crepes. The festival is 6 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The cost is $25 for general admission or $35 for VIP, which gets you access to open bars sponsored by Three Olives Vodka and Patron.
