Foodstuff

Where can you find a Swiss corkscrew, Danish cookware, a Japanese spiral vegetable-cutter, and dips and sauces from New York to the Mojave Desert? All these items and some 10,000 more are tucked into every nook and cranny of Charlene Caruso and Margaret Leiser's tiny little shop for cooks on Las Olas Boulevard. The store, aptly named Just For Cooks (806 E. Las Olas Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, 954-766-2555), opened a little more than three years ago and features all the basics of a well-stocked kitchen and many obscure kitchen gadgets. The owners say chefs from up and down Las Olas wander in, seeking ideas, gadgets, and quick replacements for broken vegetable peelers and other kitchen necessities. Popular items include the plastic Japanese Benriver, a spiral cutter that turns any vegetable into a thin pile of strands, and Misto, an aluminum spray-can into which you put olive oil for easy spritzing. Beginning July 14 the shop will host a series of cooking classes taught by Master Chef Klaus Friedenreich. Contact Just For Cooks for more information.
