Unless you have a terrible gluten allergy - and probably even if you do - pasta is everyone's favorite comfort food. Perhaps it's the carb-overload coma one slips into after gorging on a bowl of penne. Perhaps it's the childhood memories of slurping long strands of spaghetti, Lady and the Tramp style. Or maybe it's just that pasta is one of the easiest, most idiot proof things to cook.
At Italio Kitchen, however, pasta's greatest virtue is its versatility.
Italio offers a self-described "deli-style layout that encourages guests to mix and match proteins, fresh vegetables and Italian ingredients."
If you've ever visited a sub shop - or a Chipotle for that matter - and made your way down the line selecting bread varieties, meat options, and toppings, you already know almost everything you need to know about Italio Kitchen - except for one thing.
To celebrate the opening of the brand's third location in Fort Lauderdale, tomorrow both the new location and the Boca Raton one will be hosting Free Food Day. It is exactly what it sounds like.
Each guest will receive one complimentary entrée; a signature Piadina (Italian-style wrap), Pasta Bowl (Whole Wheat or Traditional) or Salad Bowl.
Then you get to customize it a range of half a dozen proteins and more than 20 different fresh veggies. Top that with housemade pesto or a selection of sauces.
If all that free pasta isn't enough to fill you up you can also purchase small portioned-sides (from $1.98 - $3.98); Calamari Misto - hand-cut breaded and fried calamari, and Italio Sticks - baked cheese-stuffed piadinas.
For dessert order up some Cannoli Chips ($2.98) and maybe treat yourself to a selection of imported and domestic beers, wines and San Pellegrino beverages(these vary upon location.)
Free Food Day is at both South Florida Italio Kitchen locations from 10:45 a.m. to 10 p.m. tomorrow, Friday, November 8.
Italio Kitchen is located at 2151 North Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale and at
1658 N. Federal Highway in Boca Raton. Visit visit ItalioKitchen.com.
