There is plenty of opportunity to get a meaty meal this week with both a rib contest and a barbecue contest on the South Florida event schedule. For a look at these and other food- and drink-focused events in Broward and Palm Beach this week, read on after the jump.

Saturday
:

Third-Annual Rib Roundup -- Area restaurants and amateurs alike will compete for awards in categories like Best Overall, Best Sauce, and People's Choice. Messy, meaty treats and live country music are on the agenda for this WIRK-FM (107.9) event. The parking lot opens at 10 a.m., and the gates open at noon. Music starts at 12:30 p.m., and judging for the ribs is at 5 p.m. Advance tickets cost $27 ($20 for the event, $7 for fees. Parking is $10, cash only, at the gate). The event is at the Cruzan Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach.

Opening of Yogurtland in Plantation -- If you haven't yet tired of the self-serve fro-yo craze head to the grand opening of Yogurtland at the Fountains, 801 S. University Drive in Plantation. Attendees get free frozen yogurt and toppings while supplies last and other free giveaways in limited supply. There also will be balloon artists and face painting for the kiddies. The opening event is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Last weekend of Renaissance Festival -- This is the last opportunity to guzzle some beer while gnawing on a giant turkey leg and talking in that Elizabethan/Cockney accent that everyone seems to take on at the Ren-Fest. The festival is Saturday and Sunday at Quiet Waters Park in Deerfield Beach.

St. Patrick's Day Festival -- Imbibe Irish food and drinks from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at this family-friendly festival at Huizenga Plaza in downtown Fort Lauderdale.
