July 2015 Broward and Palm Beach Restaurant Openings and Closings

The month of July saw a number of new restaurant openings across South Florida.

The most hotly anticipated openings included Tap 42 in Boca Raton (the second location for the growing gastropub chain), Swell Pizza in Delray Beach (the latest venture for Pizzeria Oceano's Dak Kerprich), and Riverside Market South (a smaller version of the Fort Lauderdale craft beer bar and market).

There was also a new location for Tunie's, the all-natural grocer with goods said to rival those of Whole Foods, but at lower prices. And Broward County's craft beer scene welcomed Bangin' Banjo Brewing Co., bringing with it several signature brews and a rotating list of seasonal selections.

As always, there were also few closings — but nothing without the promise of more to come. Fort Lauderdale's longstanding Bimini Boatyard Bar & Grill closed its doors temporarily while undergoing an extensive renovation. Likewise, Taps Restaurant in Himmarshee Village called it quits but will soon be reopening as JEY Hospitality's newest concept, Pizzacraft. And farther north, in Palm Beach County, Pizzeria Oceano rebranded into Jerk O, ending its infamous pizza reign at that location only to open its partner concept Swell farther south.

One thing we're not looking forward to losing: the authentic diner portion of the Lake Park Dunkin' Donuts Diner, what stood as the last remaining Dunkin' Donuts diner in the country. The restaurant will be closing August 16 for a remodel that will make way for more streamlined service starting August 31.
