Mother's Day is this Sunday and if you've been procrastinating, you'd better get up off the couch and figure out a gift. Luckily for you, we have a great idea that goes way beyond the usual bouquet of carnations that you picked up from some guy on the I-95 off-ramp.

Since mom spent all that money putting your unworthy self through school, we suggest you shell out some of your hard-earned dollars for a little tuition money...for mom.

No, we're not suggesting sending her away to law school. We're suggesting enrolling mom in one of the fantastic classes we're picked out. Mom can learn to bake the perfect cake, appreciate wine, or create the perfect cheese platter. Best of all? Each class is less than three hours long, and all are well under $100.

Cheese Classes

The Cheese Course can not only make up a fantastic platter to bring over to mom's house, they have some awesome (and affordable classes). Why not sign mom up for the upcoming "Entertaining With Cheese" class ($20) at the Coral Springs location on May 24, where cheesemongers will teach mom how to create the perfect cheese course for entertaining? She'll learn the difference of six cheesy families including fresh, bloomy, washed, blue, semi-hard, and hard, while tasting each cheese. When she's done, she'll have the knowledge to be the cheesiest entertainer on the block! There are a host of other classes for mom, including cheese and beer pairings, and cheese and wine tastings. Check out all the classes (and register mom) here.

Wine Tastings

If mom's version of a good wine is whatever's BOGO at Publix, maybe it's time to gently elevate her palate. The Best Cellar in Wilton Manors holds wine classes every

Wednesday -- Saturday at 6 p.m. & 8 p.m., as well as a Saturday afternoon tasting from 2 - 4 p.m. Tickets are only $20 each and each class features a different theme like "Wines of Italy" or "Zinfandels". Call for info and reservations (recommended) 954-630-8020.

Cooking School

If mom's favorite television show was The French Chef, she'd love to experience one of Chef Jean-Pierre's Cooking School's classes. The school, located in Fort Lauderdale, has a host of affordable cooking classes where mom will learn classic techniques, meet new people, and then dine on the fruits of her labors. Upcoming classes include Basic Pastry and Dessert (Monday, May 13 at 7:30 p.m.; $65); The Beef Class (Thursday, May 16 at 7:30 p.m.; $70); and How To Prepare The Perfect Meal (Monday, May 20 at 7:30 p.m.; $68). Sign mom up for any of these classes or give her a gift certificate so she can choose herself, here.
