While we're not ones to condone cults -- if we're going to lose our lives to a food item, it certainly wouldn't be Kool-Aid -- we are into weird and off the wall things, especially if it has something to do with food.
Deerfield Beach's Oceans 234 is about to launch its own obsessive group.
Designed for serious food-lovers, the restaurant is kicking off its culinary cult series next week.
Starting next Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., executive chef Victor Franco is hosting a new monthly dining series with themed evenings of food, drinks, and like-minded foodies.
The official kick off starts with a four-course dinner entitled "From Ocean to Table," featuring a selection of dishes comprised of local ingredients with drink pairings to match. All of the ingredients used will be from within the confines of Florida's borders.
The cost to attend is $65 per person.
"Oceans 234 already had a loyal following of locals who love Chef Vic and his gourmet cuisine," says Danielle Williams, owner of Oceans 234. "So we decided to bring these like-minded people together in one place for an evening of socializing, drinking great spirits and enjoying fantastic food."
Future events will include themes focusing on items like exotic mushrooms, sushi and sake, and craft beers and small plates. The cost will vary from $25 to $85 per individual, with drinks.
While the inaugural event will not include a cooking demonstration by Franco, subsequent get-togethers will.
"Executive Chef Victor Franco is so endearing with our guests and really connect with them," says Williams. "He often makes visits to tables to interact with guest and ask about their dining experience. It has become abundantly clear that our guest are intrigued by Chef Victor's style of cooking as well as his creative creations. So we thought why not take one night out of the month to bring together a group of people that really enjoy food and all things culinary to connect with Chef Victor. Throughout the years he has been with us, his charming demeanor has created quite a following so what better to call this group than the Culinary Cult."
Oceans 234 is located at 234 N. Ocean Drive in Deerfield Beach. Call 954-428-2539, or visit oceans234.com.
