The Original Brooklyn Water Bagel Co. will soon be opening its first "express" location, a new model roll-out from the South Florida-based, bagelcentric company.

Founder Steve M. Fassberg recently announced the company’s latest concept, the Brooklyn Express, a new store model that will launch in downtown Fort Lauderdale this week. The 730-square-foot express location is set to open Friday, March 18, on the first floor of the Broward Financial Centre, just north of Las Olas Boulevard.

For those of you already familiar with the area, the new location may seem a bit odd — it's just a few hundred feet from the company's latest Broward County store, which opened last summer at 601 SE Third Ave., directly across from the new Broward County Justice Complex and south of the New River.

But that's the idea: The 4,000-square-foot, full-service restaurant is acting as a commissary hub, where it will prepare all the menu items for the Brooklyn Express on an hourly basis, ensuring the freshness of the Original Brooklyn Water Bagel Co.’s bagels, muffins, and cookies, says Fassberg.

"We saw the need to bring our brand to the submarket north of the river and Las Olas but didn't want to open another full-service store," added Fassberg. "The two locations are less than a 1/10 mile apart. The new Express model will enable our company and franchisees to enter in dense areas where we can't put a full kitchen."

Launched in 2009 in Delray Beach, the Original Brooklyn Water Bagel Co.’s core products revolve around its proprietary 14-step water filtration system, meant to re-create the water found in the Catskill Mountains in upstate New York. The water is also used in its hot coffee, famous Cubsta, iced teas, muffins, and cookies.

The Brooklyn Express will be open seven days a week from 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., with indoor and outdoor seating for 45 guests. Its menu will feature bagels, bagel sandwiches, muffins, and omelets served all day. There's also smoked fish, deli sandwiches, soups, salads, and more.

Brooklyn Express is located at 500 E. Broward Blvd., Fort Lauderdale. Visit brooklynwaterbagels.com.
