Paladar Latin Kitchen & Rum Bar: Opening Tonight at Gulfstream Park

If there is anything Florida has down pat, it's Latin food and rum. With our demographics, that most certainly makes sense. This week brings south Florida's newest Latin-inspired restaurant: Paladar Latin Kitchen & Rum Bar.

The Cleveland, Ohio based chain is celebrating its grand opening at The Village at Gulfstream Park, in Hallandale this Thursday, November 15. The event will feature live music by Elastic Bond. With two locations -- Cleveland and Annapolis, Maryland -- this will be Paladar's third location.

The 10,000 square foot restaurant -- 7,000 square feet inside and a 3,000 square foot patio -- is located directly across from the Gulfstream Casino. Guests will be able to view the racetrack, including where they parade the horses. The restaurant will have an inside and outside bar, an outside lounge and seating area, two dining sections (including a private party area) and an open kitchen with a window for the guacamole station.

The fare is inspired by South and Central America, Cuba, and the Caribbean. You can expect to see dishes like short rib empanadas ($9.95), slow roasted mojo pork ($16.95), and feijoada stew ($16.95). And as the title indicates, the restaurant specializes in rum; it has a wide selection of flavored and spiced, white, gold, dark, and aged rums.

According to Co-President of Paladar Latin Kitchen & Rum Bar, Andy Himmel, "Paladar is not your traditional Latin restaurant. Our team is introducing a fresh interpretation of Latin cuisine to South Floridians, where guests can look to Paladar as a local outpost for comforting meals with a creative twist. Situated in the crossroads of South Florida, we're ideal for business lunches to group celebrations to a romantic evening."

Is the Cleveland-based restaurant's "fresh interpretation of Latin cuisine" going to appeal to south Floridians familiar with traditional Latin fare? Only time will tell.

If anything, there's always the rum.
