Leave your sunscreen and hats at home this Saturday, and head indoors for the 2013 Palm Beach Summer Beer Fest. Over 150 beers will be featured at this event, held at the Expo Center on the South Florida Fairgrounds. Expect to imbibe brews from noted brew houses such as Pyramid, Oskar Blues, Terrapin, Widmer Brothers, Stone, Left Hand, and Victory.
As beer festivals go, this is an exciting one: It's the only indoor beerfest around, which is a godsend when you're talking about Florida's notorious heat, humidity, and afternoon thunderstorms.

Local favorites Due South, Tequesta Brewing, Funky Buddha Brewery, Lagerhead Brewing, Inlet Brewing, Holy Mackerel, Brewzzi, and Native Brewing will be among the participants, so make sure you check out their tents for some rare and unique offerings. We've heard that Due South will be pouring a chocolate doughnut and coffee porter, while Lagerhead Brewing will be bringing their famed basil IPA and watermelon blonde ale. If you were ever shy about trying a beer, now's your chance. There's no excuse!
Since your taste buds will be satisfied, why not your ears? British rock/folk/roots band The Dunwells will be performing on stage, giving festivalgoers a rhythmic, pub-like atmosphere to hang out in. Also joining The Dunwells are local country entertainers County Line Road and Brooke Eden.
The festival is slated to run from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. this Saturday, July 20th at the South Florida Fairgrounds. Regular tickets are priced at $40 general admission ($35 if you buy in advance, only a few hours to do that still!) and special designated driver tickets will be $10. Or, if you're feeling like joining the high rollers, $75 will get you into the VIP section, filled with Collesi, Brooklyn Local 1, Brooklyn Local 2, Chimay, and Duvel samples, along with a bevy of food and a commemorative beer mug.
Of course, what beer festival in this day and age would be complete without a homebrew competition? The Palm Beach Summer Beer Fest is giving away $750 to the first-place winner. That's some serious prize money.
So this Saturday, rain or shine (because it's indoors, who cares!) make it out to the Fairgrounds off SR80 and enjoy an afternoon with beer enthusiasts such as yourself; meet local brewers, try many beers, and come away with a greater appreciation and expanded palate of beer.
