The Balvenie brand ambassador, David Laird, will join the South Palm Beach County Jewish Federation for an intimate, hands-on master class and tasting at Prime Cigar & Wine Bar on Monday, October 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. The Balvenie is a unique range of Single Malt whiskies hand-crafted in Scotland's Speyside region by William Grant & Sons. Created by internationally renowned malt master, David Stewart, Balvenie is unique in that it retains complete control over the five rare crafts that go into the production of its acclaimed whiskey: nowhere else will you find a distillery that still grows its own barley, malts in its own traditional malting floor, employs coopers to tend every cask, a coppersmith to maintain the stills, and a malt master to ensure the resulting spirit is consistently excellent. The class will serve to educate participants on the history of Balvenie's scotch whiskey. During the event, participants will be able to enjoy a selection of kosher appetizers before Laird delivers a presentation covering everything from the distillery's history, to the "Five Rare Crafts" of traditional whiskey making. Following the lecture, Laird will lead guests through a sampling of several of the Balvenie's expressions. Guests can expect to leave with a full understanding of the brand and its products, which includes tasting and comparing up to four marques from the Balvenie range, including: Balvenie 12 Single Barrel, Balvenie 14 Caribbean Cask, Balvenie 15 Single Barrel, and Balvenie 25. Visit www.thebalvenie.com, or call Prime Cigar & Wine Bar at 561-613-6130.

Love food, but hate genetically modified organisms having anything to do with the stuff you eat? Chipotle Mexican Grill has vowed to be GMO-free, and you can, too. On Thursday, October 16, support GMO-Free Florida's World Food Day and head to Chipotle Mexican Grill in Fort Lauderdale for lunch or dinner. The nonprofit, grassroots organization works to educate Florida communities state-wide on the importance of GMOs food labeling. Their mission: to have mandatory labeling of GMOs across Florida, with the long-term goal of banning the release of GMOs into the environment. With your Chipotle purchase on October 16, you'll help GMO-Free Florida promote its GMO-labeling initiative across the state. To show your support, all you need to do is call-in an order for pick-up (or dine-in) at Chipotle Mexican Grill on North Federal between 2-6 p.m. The fundraising event will use 50 percent of the proceeds raised during that time to donate to the GMO-Free Florida "Right To Know" campaign. To participate, mention "GMO-free Florida" to the cashier when you order. GMO-Free Florida World Food Day will take place at Chipotle Mexican Grill at 1736 N Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale.
