Sushi & Stroll at Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens: Plum Wine and Taiko Drums

The Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens may be one of the most beautiful and tranquil places in South Florida. Since opening in 1977, the garden and museum have brought Japanese culture and the art of the formal Japanese garden to Delray Beach. 

The extensive gardens, redesigned in 2001, allow you to explore traditional rock gardens and bonsai gardens, with more than two dozen exhibits and representations of Asian gardening techniques.

Normally closed in the evenings, the Morikami is open for a series of Sushi & Stroll evenings. Sip some plum wine or sake while exploring the grounds, then stop at the Cornell Cafe for some Japanese food before taking in a concert by the Fushu Daiko Taiko drummers. Self-guided tours of the garden are available as well.

The Cornell Cafe will feature a selection of sushi rolls, like California ($5), vegetable ($4), and tempura shrimp ($6), as well as several à la carte items. Choose from cold sesame noodles ($6), pork dumplings ($5), Asian eggplant ($7), egg rolls ($3), or chicken wings ($5), or order a combo platter with rice ($10). Sapporo, plum wine, and sake are available for $5 each, as well as a selection of sodas, water, lemonade, and iced tea ($2).

Sushi & Stroll evenings are offered on June 8, July 13, August 24, and September 14 from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. Admission is $7 for adults 18 and over, $5 for kids 4-17, and free for children under 4 and museum members.
