When it comes to business, there's no need to rattle a good thing. Unless, of course, you're so busy that it's hard to accommodate all of the customers willing to shell out some cash for your goods and services.

That's the problem Sushi Rock Las Olas had been facing for years. The spot has been so busy, it once had to put actor Alec Baldwin on a 45-minute wait -- he left in the end.

To keep up with demand, Sushi Rock opened a second location, in Wilton Manors.

After years of planning and construction, the new location opened its doors on July 15. The new gayborhood locale was built to deal with overflow from the bustling Las Olas site.

"We couldn't accommodate larger parties and reservations before," said Sunny Yuthasunthorn, public relations manager for the restaurant. "To take large groups, we'd often have to split them up, have them wait, or have them come in early. We don't have to do that here."

The Wilton Manors location aims to bring the same vibe, food, service, and overall Sushi Rock brand to the second outpost of the restaurant. Much of the kitchen staff from the Las Olas location has come over to maintain continuity with the original menu, but the restaurant has also had to hire plenty of new staff.

Operators opted for a soft opening to allow the staff some time to settle in and to figure out the kinks of the restaurant. According to Yuthasunthorn, they are currently taking a lot of feedback from customers.

"We've tweaked little things so far," said Yuthasunthorn. "Some of our guests said they would prefer to see the chandelier dimmed, so we rewired it. If guests want to see delivery from here, we'll consider that. We'd like everyone to come check out this location, because we've been so successful over there, we're trying to keep everything as similar as possible."

Sushi Rock is located at 2199 Wilton Drive in Wilton Manors. Call 954-533-5162.
