Veterans Day 2012 is Sunday, November 11, and in a well-timed show of solidarity, voters in Florida this week voted "yes" on several veteran-friendly amendments included in the 20,000-page ballot. And while it's certainly not as momentous, the display of gratitude continues this weekend as local and national businesses offer special discounts and freebies to veterans and active military members. The Military Wallet has created a solid roundup of the national chains with Veterans Day discounts. Find a few more localized discounts after the jump.
Flavors of Fort Lauderdale
The inaugural food event, Flavors of Fort Lauderdale, is offering a 50 percent discount admission to Sunday's Flavors Grand Tasting. The event is noon to 4 p.m. at the Las Olas Marina. The Veterans Day discount is open to active or retired members of the U.S. military. You must present a valid military ID or VA card and be 21 years or older. Tickets must be purchased at the gate the day of the event.
On Sunday, the Office in downtown Delray Beach is serving up a free alcoholic drink of your choice with proof of service.
Both locations of this Italian restaurant will offer a free alcoholic beverage of your choice with a proof of military service. The offer is good Sunday.
Duffy's Sports Grill
The sports bars will be selling red, white, and blue cupcakes for the duration of November. The $1 treats are in honor of Veterans Day and 50 cents from each cupcake will benefit Honor Flight. The organization helps American veterans of World War II to visit war memorials in Washington D.C.
Einstein Bros. Bagels
The bagel and breakfast chain is giving away a free classic or signature bagel on Sunday to any veteran. The deal doesn't include a shmear (cream cheese), toppings, gourmet bagels, or the Powerbagel. No coupon is needed, veterans can simply tell their cashier of their veteran status and enjoy one free bagel at participating locations.
