Javier Lopez and his wife were enjoying their poolside meal when they decided to step away for a quick selfie. The couple had left their pizza on a lounge chair to cool down — a decision they'd soon regret. "We felt something behind us," Lopez told Storyful, describing the moment they turned around to discover their uninvited dining companion.
The green culprit had already claimed its prize, chomping down on a slice with the confidence of someone who'd made a reservation. Video footage captured by Lopez shows the iguana treating the pizza like an all-you-can-eat buffet, completely unbothered by its human audience.
Resort staff eventually shooed away the hungry reptile and brought the couple a fresh order. But Lopez couldn't resist having a little fun with the situation. "We told them the iguana drank our alcohol and took some tequila shots as well, just joking around," Lopez says.@abcnews An iguana was spotted stealing a slice of pizza from guests lounging by the pool at a resort in South Florida. Iguanas are not native to Florida and considered an invasive species. They were first reported in the state back in the 1960s.

The incident sparked plenty of laughs on social media, with Instagram users sharing their own Florida animal encounters. One commenter joked, "Hey, I trained him well. When I get hungry in the afternoon, I send him out for some pizza. Somehow, he always manages to find a piece and brings it back to me! He's a good boy."Another made the connection to urban wildlife elsewhere: "Florida version of the NYC Rat that took the pizza." One user cut straight to the financial pain: "Resort pizza is not fucking cheap!" Another commenter empathized with the reptile: "She was hungry!"
The consensus among locals? "Only in Florida" pretty much summed up everyone's reaction. Because really, where else would a scaly party crasher help itself to your vacation pizza? For Floridians, this kind of wildlife shenanigan barely registers as unusual — just another day in the Sunshine State where iguanas roam freely and consider tourist food fair game.
