If you've always wanted to sweat it out on the line with some of South Florida's culinary stars but you don't have the chops to get a job in one of their kitchens, here's your chance (sort of; no cooking is involved). Share Our Strength is hosting a service day on Monday, April 23, at Feeding South Florida in Pembroke Pines with more than a dozen chefs, including Zach Bell, Allen Susser, Paula DaSilva, and Chris Miracolo.
Chefs and other volunteers will work together from 10 a.m. to noon at the food distribution center helping to sort donated food items that eventually will make their way to various South Florida agencies that help to combat hunger in our communities. As part of the event, several food trucks will be on-hand from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will donate a portion of their proceeds to the organization.
The roster of chefs slated to appear on Monday includes: Tim Balloo (Sugarcane Raw Bar Grill), Allen Susser, Clay Conley (Buccan), Jennifer Reed (Sugar Monkey), Zach Bell (Addison Reserve Country Club), Carolyn Shulevitz (private chef and founder of Ready. Set. Cupcake), Darryl Moiles (Four Seasons Resort Palm Beach), Paula DaSilva (1500 Degrees), Andre Bienvenu (Joe's Stone Crab), Chris Miracolo (Max's Harvest), Adriana Pereira (Sugarsweet Dreams Cake Company), and Tommy Nevill (III Forks). The food trucks scheduled to appear are Papas Tapas, The Rolling Stove, gastroPod, Jefe's Original Fish Taco & Burgers, and Dolci Peccati.
If you'd like to volunteer be sure to wear sneakers or other closed-toe shoes for the two-hour session. Feeding South Florida is located at 2501 SW 32 Terrace, Pembroke Pines. Share Our Strength's Taste of the Nation in Fort Lauderdale is set for May 17 at the
Broward County Convention Center.
