Wilton Manors' Taste of the Island Food & Wine Event October 25

Richardson Historic Park and Preserve
It's no secret that we live in an "all you can eat" society. We shamelessly pocket the zero-calorie sweetener packets from the restaurant; we box up those last bites from the buffet to feed our overweight dog. And when we learn of another all-you-can-eat food- and winetasting event, we salivate faster than Pavlov's dogs responding to a ringing bell.

On October 25 -- that's a Monday -- from 6 to 9 p.m., food enthusiasts can eat and drink their hearts out at Wilton Manors' fifth-annual Taste of the Island event at Richardson Historic Park and Preserve (1937 Wilton Drive). Proceeds will benefit six local organizations. The small "Island City" shows it's not afraid of a Napoleon complex by putting on a large tasting event despite the lack of big sponsorships. Committee member Poco French says, "Even the really big multiday [tasting] events do not have as many restaurants we do!" Here's more of what we can expect from this year's Taste of the Island:

More than 50 Restaurants & Bars -- Almost all of the participating vendors are returning from previous Taste of the Island events, including several new establishments that will offer samples of their best food and drink. 2010 Burger Battle winner Georgie's Alibi will have a station, along with Rosie's Bar and Grill, Maracas Mexican Bar & Grill, and many, many others (For a full list of participating vendors, go here.)

Taste of the Island is going green -- Whole Foods Market has generously donated all of the paper products (plates, forks, napkins)  -- and they are biodegradable!

Vendors are dressed to impress -- This year's event has added a "Best Dressed Table" to the mix. All participating vendors' tables and booths will compete to win an award for the best-looking table so that eventgoers can gaze at creative sets while they nosh.

A $30 advance-sale entry fee ($35 at the door) includes unlimited food and beverage tastes. Advance sale tickets are available at:
