Support the independent voice of South Florida and help keep the future of New Times free.

Giardino Gourmet Salads was conceptualized by husband and wife team Kenny and Ody Lugo,  formally a firefighter and Miami-Dade school teacher. Starting today, South Beach sandwich shop -- which also features salads and soups -- is holding its first Wrappy Hour. This is a catchy way of saying Buy one wrap, get the second for free. Wraps start at $6.50, and the deal runs every Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the South Beach location only (there are five other Giardinos scattered about Miami-Dade). We're not certain what constitutes the "limited time" during which the offer will run, and we surely have no idea what is meant by "Rice paper and scoops not included in promotion." Still, a deal is a deal, and the wraps here are fresh and tasty.

Giardino is located at 1444 Alton Road on Miami Beach; 305-673-9001.

Keep New Times Broward-Palm Beach Free... Since we started New Times Broward-Palm Beach, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of South Florida, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering South Florida with no paywalls.
