Apparently Rep. Allen West can’t keep around an intern that’s friendly with the gays.
Roll Call is reporting that West’s unnamed male intern — who retweeted a Twitter post from the gay-themed New York band Scissor Sisters that was originally discovered by New Times — has been canned.
West was reportedly with his staff in Fort Lauderdale while the interns were running the show at his office in Washington, D.C.
Here’s the original tweet — which was quickly deleted from Rep. West’s page — signed by the band’s lead singer, “Ana Matronic,” making reference to comedian Tracy Morgan’s antigay rant during a show in Nashville, Tennessee, a couple of weeks ago:
The West camp quickly issued a tweet apologizing for being gay-friendly the mistake before deleting the retraction too.
To make things worse for West and his intern, Scissor Sisters then sent out a tweet to their 76,000-plus followers, thanking the congressman for his support with a link to the New Times story.
Happy trails, intern.
