On Saturday, thousands of beer lovers converged upon Zoo Miami for the 2015 Miami New Times Brew at the Zoo to enjoy live music, good food, and, of course, beer.
Although the festival showcased beers from around the world, the spotlight was on the Sunshine State, where the beer community came out in full force. From the Key’s Islamorada Brewing Co. to Tampa’s famed Cigar City, the breweries proved once and for all that Florida has a powerful beer community that turns out great brews and that wonderful beers are made in our own backyard.
Oakland Park’s Funky Buddha Brewery drew large crowds at its beer tent. The Oakland Park brewery poured favorites like Hop Gun as well as the limited-edition Bonita Applebum, made with apples, cinnamon, and vanilla.
Delray Beach’s Saltwater Brewery offered a host of Florida-friendly beers. The South End Session Ale had a beautiful ruby-red grapefruit nose and a delightful citrus flavor. This 4.5 percent ABV brew is great for beating the oncoming heat.
What do you wear to a beer festival? A giant beer hat, of course.
BJ’s Brewhouse offered several beers, including its Hopstorm IPA and Jeremiah Red Ale.
Boca Raton’s Barrel of Monks Brewery offered a Florida take on traditional Belgian ales. The Quad, a dark-brown ale with dried fruit notes, was complex and bold yet still easy drinking for a warm spring evening.
Bradenton’s Darwin Brewing presented its refreshing Circa 1926, a tangerine wheat beer.
Miami’s growing beer scene was represented by a number of breweries, including Wynwood Brewing, which poured its award-winning Pop’s Porter.
