Yes, the name conjures up visions of a cutesy indie-pop band. But this Jamaican dancehall singer is six feet and six inches of reggae beefcake. Studly looks aside, Mouse also has a long musical history, starting back in Jamaica in the ’80s with a bevy of singles. Then there’s his Tourette’s-like penchant for nonsensical, made-up words that skitter across percussive beats, which led to his association with a vocal style called “sing-jay,” a combination of catch phrases with DJ-style singing. Maybe that’s why his work has been described as “bingy-boingy.” Eek-a-Mouse is a weird one, indeed. And a helluva lot better-looking than Shabba Ranks. — Audra Schroeder
