5 Under $10 for the Weekend of March 30 to April 1

Recover from the madness surrounding Ultra Music Festival and Winter Music Conference last week — or your staunch avoidance of it? Either way, if you tapped out your wallet, here are a few live music events this weekend where entry will cost you less than a Hamilton.

Friday, March 30

*Propaganda in Lake Worth offers a night of easy skanking with a full bill of reggae goodness. Headliners are Georgia favorites Passafire, and local support comes courtesy of Spred the Dub and Roots Shakedown. Admission is $10. Click here.

*Symbols has often been billed as South Florida’s only

witch-house act, but we’re betting these purveyors of dirgey, downtempo

electronic music would probably dispute that tag. We encourage them to

drop it, because their material is interesting enough to transcend silly

bloggy labels. They play at Green Room in Fort Lauderdale tonight with industrial act Force.Is.Machine. Admission is free. Click here.

*We haven’t checked in with Pembroke Pines all-ages haven the Talent Farm in a while, so here’s what’s on tonight: a pretty good touring act as a headliner. That’s This Is Hell,

a searing, long-running act from Long Island. A number of local bands

along the hardcore and sludge veins round out the bill, including Hivemind, Homestretch, the Dead Legs, and Shallow Lungs. Admission is $10. Click here.

Saturday, March 31

*As onetime frontman of local group the Front, Greg McLaughlin

rode the crest of a hard-hitting wave of punk and new wave acts in

South Florida in the late ’70s and early ’80s. The scene was fertile

and pioneering, and as a labor of love, McLaughlin created the documentary Invisible Bands, which tells the story of that time through both new interviews and archival footage. The film screens Saturday at Cinema Paradiso in Fort Lauderdale, with a show afterward by some of its stars. Admission is $8 if you’re a FLIFF member, $10 if you’re not. Click here.

*Once

a king of hardcore-inflected pop-punk, Vinnie Caruana tried his hand at

dance-rock and various other subgenres after his influential New York

act the Movelife broke up. Thankfully, he returned to what he does best

with his new act, I Am the Avalanche. The group headlines an early, all-ages show at the Speakeasy in Lake Worth tonight. Admission is $10. Click here.
