On a slow morning, here's a blast from the past. It's a segment from Broward County Commissioner Stacy Ritter's old radio show during which she and Mayor Ken Keechl talk about investigations and gift bans.

Keechl says he doesn't like the idea of a gift ban because it might -- say it ain't so -- put an end to Ritter's Mayor's Ball that year, which, of course, was sponsored with $50,000 from Scott Rothstein. Here, listen to the April tape, and then we'll talk a little more about it.

Did you hear Ritter? She said a rule to live by in politics is "do your best not to make your colleagues uncomfortable." Could you imagine if Sheila Alu followed that idiot maxim? Sunrise would probably have a

garbage dump coming that it doesn't need or want. In fact, nothing good in politics ever happens without making some politicians uncomfortable.

Keechl might even be worse. Here, again, is what the curent mayor said: "The argument was made that there's some perception of impropriety when a lobbyist or a lawyer or someone who does business in front of us buys a table [at a charitable event where a commissioner is to appear], but you don't hear those people complaining when they give them campaign contributions. We know right from wrong. It's not a quid pro quo."

What is hilarious about it is that both of them seem skeptical about talk on the "blogs" (thank you) about a federal investigation. And both basically welcomed an investigation of themselves. Well, now one of those colleagues they didn't want to make uncomfortable (Joe Eggelletion) is headed for prison and both of them are, indeed, under investigation: Ritter for her ties to both Ponzi schemer Joel Steinger and crooked developer Bruce Chait and Keechl for his rampant campaign spending. Good thing they know right from wrong or they might both get in a whole lot of trouble.

More coming.
