South Florida is typically a sweltering-hot place full of heathens -- but, once a year, those heathens make up for it by getting together and transforming our sticky paradise into a winterlike wonderland. For the past 49 years, Las Olas has been celebrating Christmas (or "the holidays," to be more politically correct) with a giant celebration. And this year is no different. Celebrate Christmas on Las Olas on Tuesday from 5 to 10 p.m. Some of the night's attractions include: a two-story ice-covered slope for sledding, an ice-skating rink provided by JM Lexus, a Santa photo booth provided by Lifestyle Magazine, and more! Like the New Times Christmas Cookie Competition. Three bakeries -- East End Eats, Cindy Made Them, Tea for Two Cookie Co. Artisan Bakery -- will take part. Although this battle may have judges, for two bucks, attendees will get to sample each cookie and cast a vote for the "people's choice" award, because it isn't a decadent Christmas without cookies for all. No admission fee. Email [email protected], or visit lasolasboulevard.com. For more on the cookie fight-off, visit our food blog, CleanPlateCharlie.com.
