Crafters used to describe people who turn a pile of string and pinecones into a cool wall hanging. But with the microbrew movement swiftly taking over the American beer scene, craft is becoming synonymous with suds rather than art supplies. The inaugural Palm Beach Craft Beer Festival is a tribute to the crafters who use barley and hops as the medium of choice. There will be more than 25 craft beer vendors on-site, including Florida favorites like Cigar City and Due South, plus American favorites like Magic Hat. Feeling especially crafty? Home brewers can enter their special creations in the home brew beer contest. Other activities include live music, a surf simulator, and hot air balloon rides. Proceeds benefit Loggerhead Marinelife Center and Surfrider Foundation. The festival runs from 4 to 9 p.m. Advance tickets cost $30 for general admission and $70 for VIP. At the door, the cost is $40 and $80, respectively. A VIP ticket includes admission at 3 p.m. and other bonuses, like a private bar and additional beer selections. Meyer Amphitheatre is located at 104 Datura St. in West Palm Beach. Call 561-441-3489, or visit pbcraftbeerfestival.
