An Affair of State

With our "fair share" of annual events in South Florida, none is as universally beloved as the South Florida Fair. Taking place annually since 1912, the South Florida Fair has become a tradition to local families and is known for being way more fun than sticking to your "healthy lifestyle" New Year's resolution. This year, the theme is New York City, meaning all the best parts of the Big Apple are being brought to us. Step into the Times Square replica and suddenly it's more than just a trip to the fair; it's a minivacay. Still not sure if the fair is for you? Live concerts featuring the likes of Cassadee Pope and Eddie Money ensure even your snobbiest of family members will find a reason to fall in love with the fair all over again. The South Florida Fair opens Friday and runs through Sunday, February 2, at the Expo Center at the South Florida Fair Grounds, located at 9067 Southern Blvd. in West Palm Beach. Fair gates open at noon Monday through Friday and at 10 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $15 for adults, $9 for seniors, $8 for children ages 6 to 11, and free for children 5 and under. Visit
Mondays-Fridays, 12-10 p.m.; Saturdays, Sundays, 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Starts: Jan. 17. Continues through Feb. 22, 2014
KEEP NEW TIMES BROWARD-PALM BEACH FREE... Since we started New Times Broward-Palm Beach, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of South Florida, and we'd like to keep it that way. With local media under siege, it's more important than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" program, allowing us to keep offering readers access to our incisive coverage of local news, food and culture with no paywalls.
