Are You a Believer in Miracles?

The name of the program is “Heroes & Miracles,” and it intends to prominently showcase rescued Chilean miners. The question that arises, then, is whether getting dragged out of a hole can make a person a hero. Are the miners heroes for not going all 28 Days Later on each other? For showing the world that civility and order can conquer danger and fear? Let’s assume that “not getting killed or going insane” is too low a heroism threshold and file the miners themselves under miracle, just as the Insane Clown Posse would describe water, fire, air, dirt, and magnets. Also on the docket, though, are Bradley Johnson, a Paralympian; Mike Jones and Ginger Littleton, who worked to thwart the Panama City school board gunman; and J.R. Martinez, an Iraq War vet now on All My Children. These guys have stories that would bring a tear to a glass eye, so get your fill of uplift at 8 p.m. Friday at the Seminole Coconut Creek Casino (5550 NW 40th St., Coconut Creek). Tickets run a cool $100 with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society, Disabled American Veterans, and the UMWA Miners Aid Fund. Learn more or buy tickets by calling 954-283-2826 or visiting
