Artistic Eating

Good art tends to be political in nature. Whether it's a sculpture capturing the turmoil of war, a photograph depicting poverty somewhere in the world, graffiti commenting on the ails of mass society, or music overtly challenging the powers that be, it should be saying something important. Or we hope so, at least. The culinary arts, on the other hand, generally don't make much of a statement -- unless, of course, you're eating something that you've grown yourself -- that's kind of revolutionary. In celebration of the art of growing food locally, Applause! Mobile Festival is making its way around the urban farms of Fort Lauderdale. Starting at noon Saturday, the event will begin at Marando Farms (1401 SW First Ave.), then head to Fort Lauderdale Vegetables Andrews Farm (625 S. Andrews Ave.), Flagler Village Community Garden (425 NE Third Ave.), Northwest Gardens, Sistrunk Community Gardens (2224 NW Sixth St.), and finishing the day at Fat Village Artwalk (NW First Avenue between NW Fifth Street and NW Sixth Street) at 6 p.m. Participants are invited to join for the entire route or at any stop along the way.
