Truth: With the promise of a couple of beers and good grub at the end of a particularly sweaty task, you can get most ordinary folks to stretch beyond their comfort (and fitness) level and agree to just about anything. Helping you move a couch up three flights of stairs? Done. Building your latest complex purchase from IKEA? No problem. Signing up for a 5K Absolutely. So although your friends might not seem interested in South Florida’s various tutu trots, Snuggie runs, or high-heel-a-thons, Thursday’s Run, Sweat & Beers, a 5K run/walk presented by the Adolph & Rose Levis Jewish Community Center, has potential. There’s the promise of beer right there in the title, people. Billed as “running fun in the setting summer sun,” the run will bypass the blistering July heat with a 7 p.m. start time. Check-in lasts from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at South County Regional Park at 12551 Glades Road, Boca Raton. Medals will be awarded to the top three male and female runners. Post-run food will be provided by Palm Beach Bagel, and brews for the 21-and-older set will come courtesy of Whole Foods Boca Raton. Proceeds raised during the run will support the scholarship fund for programs and services provided by the Levis Jewish Community Center. Visit levisjcc.org to pre-register for $25, or pay $35 the day of the race. The first 400 people to register will receive a free Dri-Fit shirt.
