Calling All Kings, Queens, and In-Betweens

Lady Gaga might not do it for you. But give her a pompadour, sideburns, and a dirty white T as her butch alter ego Jo Calderone and that's the stuff that haunts your wet dreams, no? Same here. Thursday, all preconceived notions of gender stereotypes go out the window as Drag It Out, South Florida's only nonprofit coed drag troupe, hosts a speed-dating preparty fundraiser at the Manor (2345 Wilton Drive, Wilton Manors) in advance of Draguation on Sunday, October 9. Drag It Out's students will be in full character for the first time as either kings or queens as they chat up prospective dates. The catch? They can't break character the entire evening. "Think of it as a giant icebreaker in drag," says DIO's Tabitha Mudra. Because DIO's gender-impersonation classes are free, fundraising events like tonight's are a must. This shindig will include speed dating, a special "Dirty Disney" performance, and a date auction. Doors open at 7 p.m. Call 954-626-0082, or visit
