Cash and Carry

A flat two hundred dollars buys you a piece of original art at "12 x 12 -- the Collective," the new show opening Thursday at ArtServe. The local art support group has tiled the walls of their gallery (1350 E. Sunrise Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, 954-462-8190) with hundreds of pieces of art, all 12" x 12" in size and shape, though diverse in medium. The 2D stuff is an assortment of watercolor, acrylic, collage, fabric, etc.; the 3D items are displayed in 12" Lucite shadow boxes. All you need do is pick your favorite, slip your hand into your pocket, and pull out two C-notes, then tote your new purchase home. @body:The artwork is by creative types affiliated with ArtServe member organizations. They comprise Broward's leading arts sponsor groups and include: ArtsUnited, 2+3, Bonnet House, Gold Coast Watercolor Society, Florida Society of Goldsmiths, Nine Muses, ArtServe itself, and the Broward, Coral Springs, Pembroke Pines, and Plantation art guilds. So you'll see the best Broward has to offer.

Tonight's opening reception is from 6-8 p.m. and, for the artists among you, offers an Info Exchange Expo, with all 11 groups displaying exhibition and benefit information. The Broward County Cultural Division will also be on hand with information regarding grants, loans, and public art opportunities. Not to worry if you can't make the opening; the show will be up through March 14.
