Gems Galore for the Price of Pebbles

The main difference between a gem at a yard sale and a gem at a vintage boutique is the price tag. Yard-sale stuff is pretrash stuff for the taking, where-as “vintage” stuff is pretrash stuff that has been recognized as a gem by an expert. The extra cash paid to the vintage boutique is really a convenience tax — someone has done the searching for you. You still get the glory moment of scoring a nice piece in the boutique, but it’s just not quite as rewarding as finding the gem at a yard sale for dirt cheap.

Now, wouldn’t it be an amazing find in itself to come upon a scene that offers the best of both worlds? Well, your eureka moment — probably several of them — is waiting for you in Delray Beach this weekend at the Family Vintage Yard Sale (123 S. Swinton Ave., Delray Beach). There, you’ll find the vintage goods at pretrash prices. Expect to discover clothes and shoes for guys and gals, accessories, decorative kitsch, crafting and baking supplies, collectibles, and lots of great people. The sale starts at 10 a.m. both days. As all good yard-sale shoppers know, you should get there early if you want the best stuff. Admission is free. Call 561-436-8116, or visit familyvintage.com.
